Delhi: A 20-year-old woman, Anjali Singh was killed after her scooty was hit by a car. She was dragged to death under a vehicle for 1.5 Kms in Delhi, said the police. According to the police, the woman’s family has alleged that she was sexually assaulted. Five men were in the car, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and they have been arrested. The arrested men include a credit card collection agent, a driver and a ration shop owner, the police added.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena tweeted that he was “shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators” and was monitoring the case.
LG Saxena wrote, “Even as every possible support/help and beyond, to the family of the victim will be ensured, I appeal to all to not resort to opportunistic scavenging. Let’s together work towards a more responsible and sensitive society.”
Ahead of the brutal incident, Chief Minister Kejriwal called the incident ‘shameful.’ He has said he hopes the get the strictest punishment.
“What happened to our sister in Kanjhawala is very shameful. I hope that the culprits will be punished severely,” he tweeted in Hindi, along with a newspaper clipping that says the police have registered the case under lighter sections of the law.
CCTV footage showed and confirmed that the Maruti Baleno car making a U-turn on a road in Delhi’s Kanjhawala road in Ladpur Village, where eyewitness Deepak Dahiya runs a bakery shop.
The eyewitness said that the vehicle had taken a U-turn after hitting the scooty. The footage, recorded at 3.34 am, shows the vehicle coming back towards the Tosi village, where the body was found. The body can be clearly seen under the vehicle.

Mr. Dahiya has said that accused kept dragging the body of the victim which got entangled to their vehicle for 18-20 kms. It was lasted for one and half hours.
“It was 3:20 am…I was standing outside the shop when I heard a loud noise from a vehicle about 100 meters away. Earlier I thought it was a tire burst. As soon as the car moved, I saw a body being dragged. I informed the police immediately,” Mr. Dahiya told news agency ANI.
