Chaibasa Rape Case: Is India Really Safe for women?

A 26-year-old techie girl was on work from home got raped by 10 men in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district Chaibasa.

The girl, who is here as she is working from home, was out with her boyfriend on a two-wheeler on Thursday evening on 20th October, 2022 when the incident took place near the old aerodrome in Chaibasa, the police told the media.

Police said she had gone for a bike ride to the Tekrahatu airstrip with her friend around 6 pm when she was attacked.

A group of at least eight to ten men stopped the couple, beat up the boyfriend pretty badly and allegedly raped the woman after taking her to a secluded spot, the police said.

Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said that a case was registered at the Muffasil police station and an investigation underway to identify the victims those who were behind the incident.

The woman is a worker at a well-known IT company.

After raping her, all the ten accused left her at that very spot and fled. They also took away her personal belongings like her wallet and mobile phone.

After such a heinous thing happened to her, the woman somehow managed to reach her home, and with all the pain and suffering she was going through she narrated the entire incident to her family about the incident after which they filed a police complaint.

After receiving information about the incident, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Khalko and Muffasil police station in-charge Pawan Pathak reached the spot along with their team and started looking for the accused.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filled and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case.

Her medical check-up was conducted at the Sadar Hospital, where security has been tightened.

Yet another heinous crime and still no strict law has been set for it.
