The Union Budget 2026-27 raised the allocation for the Ministry of Ayush to Rs 4,500 crore. This represents an increase of more than 10 per cent compared with the previous fiscal, said Union Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed establishing three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda. These institutes aim to expand high-quality education, advance research, and provide tertiary care in Ayurveda.
The Budget also envisages upgrading Ayush pharmacies and drug-testing laboratories. This step will improve certification standards, strengthen quality assurance, and create more demand for trained personnel in traditional medicine.
Sitharaman announced that the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine at Jamnagar will be upgraded. The facility will conduct evidence-based research, strengthen scientific validation, and help gain global recognition for India’s traditional medicine systems.
Jadhav highlighted that this initiative will raise research standards and foster international collaboration.
The Budget proposes setting up AYUSH centres within five planned Regional Medical Value Tourism Hubs. These centres will integrate Ayurveda, yoga, and naturopathy into comprehensive medical tourism complexes, including diagnostics, post-treatment care, and rehabilitation.
International patients will be able to enter India on an Ayush visa to access these services. Jadhav noted that the initiative is expected to boost foreign exchange earnings and enhance India’s presence in global healthcare tourism.
The increased budget demonstrates the government’s commitment to modernising traditional medicine infrastructure, expanding research and education, and creating employment. It represents a significant step in promoting Ayurveda and allied systems both nationally and internationally.
