Union Budget 2026–27 Prioritises Growth, Reforms, And Job Creation Across India

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the Union Budget 2026–27 is designed to accelerate economic expansion and create new jobs across multiple sectors. She explained that the budget focuses on implementing structural reforms to enhance productivity and provide an environment conducive to employment generation.

The Finance Minister added that the emphasis on growth, reforms, and job creation reflects the government’s goal of establishing a technology-driven and inclusive economic framework.

Sitharaman highlighted a Rs 10,000 crore allocation for the biopharma sector over the next five years. She said this funding will help India retain its leading position in the global biopharma industry.

The budget also prioritises healthcare, with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare receiving Rs 1,06,530.42 crore, marking an increase of almost 10 per cent over FY 2025–26 revised estimates. The government has prioritised mental health programmes.

Skilling and Workforce Development

The budget proposes the creation of 1 lakh Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) in ten fields, including optometry, radiology, and anaesthesia, over five years.

The government will establish additional emergency and trauma centres, along with mental health institutions such as NIMHANS. It will also train 1.5 lakh caregivers under geriatric and NSQF-aligned programmes.

The Finance Minister expressed confidence in the development of new rare earth corridors, citing the success of existing defence corridors as a blueprint for economic growth and strategic advantage.

Sitharaman described the budget as the first in the second quarter of the century, aimed at advancing India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, promoting inclusive development.

On questions regarding electoral considerations, she remarked that government policies are often subject to criticism, regardless of context.
