Twitter Revamps Verification System, Legacy Checkmarks to be Removed

Starting from today, which is 20th of April, Twitter will begin removing the verified checkmarks from individual and verified organization accounts that were obtained under the previous verification policy. Twitter CEO Elon Musk had announced the deadline for this on 12th April. Consequently, individuals and organizations that possess legacy verified accounts with the blue checkmark will be required to pay to keep it. The exception to this rule will be for those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue, as their blue checkmarks will be retained. Twitter Blue is a subscription service for Twitter.

The cost of Twitter Blue varies depending on the region and method of subscription. In the United States, the monthly fee for iOS and Android users is $11, or $114.99 for a yearly subscription, while the fee for web users is $8 per month or $84 per year.

Moreover, Twitter has announced that individuals with a verified account can retain their blue tick by subscribing to Twitter Blue.

The company has also introduced Verified Organizations, allowing organizations to verify their affiliates and gain an affiliate badge on their profile with the organization’s logo. Verified Organizations must undergo vetting before they can join. Elon Musk announced that Twitter will begin charging for account verification to generate revenue.

Elon Musk, who purchased Twitter for $44 billion six months ago, recently admitted to making several mistakes in managing the social media platform, referring to it as “quite a rollercoaster.” During a live BBC interview, he acknowledged the error of labeling the broadcaster’s account as “government-funded media” and pledged to change the designation to “publicly funded” after the BBC objected. Musk emphasized his commitment to truthful and accurate labeling of accounts on Twitter.
