French energy major TotalEnergies has reiterated its strong commitment to India’s green energy future by promising continued support to Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL).
During a meeting in Paris with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, TotalEnergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne confirmed the company’s plans to deepen collaboration with AGEL, which currently operates over 14 GW of renewable energy capacity.
Pouyanne also shared TotalEnergies’ wider strategic outlook for India, which includes enhanced natural gas infrastructure, city gas projects, and renewable energy expansion.
The company’s Indian portfolio is valued at around $5 billion, covering a broad spectrum of sustainable energy initiatives.
Goyal, after the meeting, took to social media to state, “Met Mr. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman & CEO of @TotalEnergies. Discussed the company’s investment plans for India and avenues for deeper collaboration in the renewable energy sector.”
TotalEnergies first partnered with Adani Green in 2021 by acquiring a minority stake.
Since then, AGEL has grown significantly, emerging as the world’s first renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) to achieve water positivity across its operational portfolio, a milestone achieved a full year ahead of its FY26 target.
This water positivity achievement places AGEL at the forefront of global sustainable practices, making it the only company among the world’s top 10 RE firms (by operational portfolio) to have reached this benchmark.
In FY25, AGEL posted strong financial performance, crossing $1 billion in EBITDA, while its operational capacity rose by 30 per cent year-on-year to 14.2 GW.
The company added a record 3.3 GW of greenfield capacity, making it the highest annual addition by any renewable energy firm in India.
AGEL’s contribution accounted for 16 per cent of the country’s new utility-scale solar capacity and 14 per cent of wind installations during the fiscal year.
AGEL is currently constructing a massive 30 GW renewable energy complex in Khavda, Gujarat.
Spread over 538 square kilometres—nearly five times the size of Paris—the project stands to become one of the largest RE installations globally.
TotalEnergies’ reaffirmation of support underscores India’s growing role in the global clean energy movement.
As Adani Green continues to break new ground in sustainable innovation and renewable capacity, the partnership with TotalEnergies represents a significant milestone in India’s journey towards energy independence and ecological responsibility.
