Swiss State Secretary Highlights India’s Growing Role In Global Affairs

Swiss State Secretary Alexandre Fasel has emphasized India’s potential to play a more prominent and constructive role in global affairs, citing its robust diplomatic ties with countries across the world and its leadership within the Global South.

In an interview with ANI, Fasel discussed India’s unique position in international relations, particularly in fostering diplomatic ties with all nations. He noted that India’s engagement with various countries positions it as an essential player in shaping global conversations. Fasel also expressed hope that India would continue to amplify the voice of the Global South in international geopolitical discussions, acknowledging the country’s growing influence.

“India is a country that is friendly with everybody, that is friends to everybody. It is a leading power of the Global South,” Fasel remarked. “I am very confident that India will play the positive role that she has in itself.”

The Path To Resolving The Russia-Ukraine Conflict

In the interview, Fasel also addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, underscoring the importance of a negotiated resolution to the conflict. He stressed that a long-term victory could not be achieved through military means alone, emphasizing that peace talks are crucial for lasting stability.

“We certainly hope that this conflict can come to an end,” Fasel said. “In that sort of conflict, the end can only be a negotiated one. You do not win on the battlefield in the long run.” He further elaborated on the multiple dimensions of the conflict, stating that a resolution must address not only the immediate ceasefire between the warring parties but also broader geopolitical concerns such as arms control, disarmament, and European security architecture.

Fasel expressed hope that the time is ripe for serious discussions on these complex issues, calling for comprehensive talks on all aspects of the conflict.

India’s Strategic Influence And Future Prospects

As Fasel reflected on India’s global role, he reiterated the country’s capability and responsibility to take on a larger role in shaping international discourse. He praised India for its diplomatic neutrality and emphasized its leadership within the Global South. Fasel’s comments highlight the growing recognition of India as a key player in global governance and its potential to contribute positively to international resolutions.

In summary, Fasel conveyed a strong message of confidence in India’s future influence, expressing hope that the country will continue to advance global peace efforts while representing the interests of the Global South in critical international discussions.
