Stock Market Today: Sensex Rises 27 Points, Nifty Opens Flat

Indian equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty opened nearly flat on Tuesday, October 13, as gains in information technology (IT) and real estate shares offset losses in healthcare and pharmaceutical stocks.

At the opening bell, the Sensex rose 27.05 points, or 0.04 per cent, to 71,951.73. The Nifty opened at 22,364.15, up 0.80 points, indicating a largely unchanged start to the trading session.

Sectoral performance remained mixed. The Nifty IT, Nifty Midsmall IT & Telecom and Nifty Realty indices gained up to 2 per cent.

The Nifty PSU Bank advanced 0.31 per cent, while the Nifty FMCG and Nifty Oil & Gas indices rose 0.22 per cent and 0.20 per cent, respectively.

Healthcare and pharmaceutical indices fell by up to 0.75 per cent.

Experts expect FIIs to continue selling and DIIs to buy Indian equities, with US 10-year bond yields above 5.2 per cent sustaining foreign selling pressure.

Strong mutual fund inflows are expected to help domestic institutions absorb the selling pressure.

Net mutual fund inflows reached a record ₹38,307 crore in September, according to market experts.

India’s consumer price index (CPI) inflation stood at 5.54 per cent, in line with expectations, while food inflation reached 7.74 per cent.

With Brent crude above $100 per barrel, experts flagged a possible RBI rate hike in December, which could improve banks’ interest margins.

Technical analysts said the Nifty must cross 22,435 to signal recovery; otherwise, it could fall to 22,070–21,900.

Asian markets fell as AI stocks weakened ahead of earnings.

The Nasdaq closed lower on Monday amid rising oil prices and uncertainty ahead of US bank earnings and key economic data.
