Indian equity benchmarks opened largely flat on Thursday as investors balanced strong domestic economic indicators against concerns over crude oil prices.
The Sensex opened 145.56 points, or 0.19 per cent, higher at 78,111.91, while the Nifty slipped 4.35 points, or 0.02 per cent, to 24,431.60.
Among sectors, Nifty Media gained 0.61 per cent, while Nifty Auto rose 0.39 per cent.
Selling pressure affected several heavyweight and rate-sensitive sectors.
Nifty Realty fell 0.81 per cent, Nifty IT declined 0.69 per cent, while Nifty PSU Bank, Oil & Gas and Private Bank indices dropped by up to 0.61 per cent.
Market experts expect equities to remain in a consolidation phase in the near term as strong domestic macroeconomic fundamentals and continued inflows from domestic investors provide support.
High-frequency indicators, including GST collections, freight movement, automobile sales and credit growth, continue to reflect resilience in the Indian economy.
Analysts expect this strength to support corporate earnings in the coming quarters.
Elevated crude oil prices remain a major risk for the market. Any sustained rise in oil prices could increase inflationary pressures and raise input costs for companies.
Technical analysts said the market’s rebound from the 20-day moving average on Wednesday and the formation of a hammer candlestick pattern have improved the near-term outlook.
Analysts see the Nifty moving towards 24,540-24,666, while Brent and WTI crude prices fell, easing inflation concerns. Investors will track economic data, fund flows and oil prices.
