Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty gained ground on Friday, boosted by a rise in market heavyweights Reliance Industries, ITC, and Bharti Airtel amid a positive trend worldwide.
The 30-share BSE Sensex soared 260.30 points, or 0.35 percent to 72,664.47. It rallied 542.37 points or 0.74 percent to 72,946.54 during the session.
The NSE Nifty moved 97.70 points, or 0.44 percent to 22,055.20.
BPCL, Cholamandalam Invest, Vedanta, Zomato, Torrent Pharma, Pidilite Industries, ABB India, NTPC, Power Grid Corp, Hero MotorCorp, ICICI Prudential, and JSW Steel were the top gainers.
Among the laggards were Bank Of Baroda, TCS, Adani Power, Cipla, DLF, Adani Total Gas, LTIMindtree, Infosys, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
In Asian markets, Singapore, Shanghai, South Korea, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan closed higher, while Malaysia concluded lower.
European stocks were trading in positive territory.
On Thursday, US markets ended in the green.
Brent crude gained 0.41 percent to USD 84.22 per barrel.
According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold securities worth Rs 6,994.86 crore on Thursday.
On Thursday, the Sensex dipped 1,062.22 points, or 1.45 percent, to 72,404.17, while the Nifty sank 345 points, or 1.55 percent, to 21,957.50.
