The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty hit new all-time highs in early trade on Friday, buoyed by investors’ optimism ahead of the Lok Sabha poll results announcement and fresh foreign capital inflows.
In early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex surged 164.24 points to 75,582.28, an all-time high. The NSE Nifty advanced 36.4 points to cross the 23,000 milestone for the first time. It reached a lifetime peak of 23,004.05.
Adani Energy, Havells India, Adani Total Gas, Hindalco, Power Finance Corp, Vedanta, and L&T were the top gainers.
Among the laggards were Cholamandalam Invest, Adani Ports, LIC, Torrent Pharma, Apollo Hospitals, Shriram Finance, Marico, and IRCTC.
In Asian markets, Singapore, and Indonesia were trading higher, while Tokyo, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, Shanghai, and Hong Kong were trading lower.
US markets ended in negative territory on Thursday.
Brent crude gained 0.05 percent to USD 81.40 per barrel.
According to exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 4,670.95 crore on Thursday.
On Thursday, the Sensex climbed 1,196.98 points, or 1.61 percent to 75,418.04, while Nifty the Nifty soared 369.85 points, or 1.64 percent to 22,967.65.
