Sensex, Nifty End Higher Led By IT Stocks; Rupee Hits Record Closing Low

Indian equities closed higher on Friday, with the Sensex rising 325.72 points to 74,532.96 and the Nifty gaining 112.35 points to 23,114.50.

IT stocks led the rally, surging 2.17 per cent, while defensive sectors like Nifty Pharma and Nifty PSU Bank also posted strong gains.

Investors booked profits in the final hour as renewed strikes between Iran and Israel heightened concerns over global oil supply.

Brent crude prices climbed, weighing on broader market sentiment and triggering declines in select indices.

Nifty Realty fell around 1 per cent, while Nifty MidCap and SmallCap indices ended 0.67 per cent and 0.09 per cent higher, respectively, giving up part of their intra-day gains.

Market analysts observed that Nifty continues to face resistance near 23,350, while a breach below 23,000 could push it toward 22,900–22,950.

On the upside, 23,600 remains a strong supply zone likely to cap any meaningful recovery.

Traders are expected to track geopolitical developments and crude price movements closely in the near term.

The Indian rupee weakened to a record closing low of 93.71 per US dollar, down 1.17 per cent.

Analysts noted that USDINR remains technically bullish, targeting 93.75 with support around 92.90, reflecting external pressures on domestic financial markets.

Markets displayed cautious optimism throughout the session, balancing IT-led gains with global uncertainties, including crude price volatility and geopolitical tensions, as investors monitored both domestic and international cues for market direction.
