Sensex, Nifty End Higher As Earnings Boost Investor Sentiment

Domestic equity markets extended their winning streak on Tuesday, as investors responded positively to encouraging earnings reported for the December quarter. Supportive global cues and steady foreign fund inflows also contributed to the upward move.

The Sensex added 208 points, or 0.25 per cent, to close at 84,065 by the end of the session. The Nifty 50 rose 67 points, or 0.26 per cent, to settle at 25,935.

Shares beyond the benchmark space delivered comparatively stronger performance. The Nifty Midcap 100 advanced by 0.49 per cent, while the NSE Smallcap 100 index gained 0.38 per cent.

Microcap stocks attracted heightened investor interest, with the Nifty Microcap 250 climbing 1 per cent.

The segment outperformed key benchmarks for the second session in a row, aided by healthy earnings numbers for the December 2025 quarter.

Investor confidence was underpinned by purchases from foreign institutional investors, stable global markets, and optimism linked to a possible interim trade understanding between India and the United States.

Most sectoral indices ended the day with gains, barring pharma and PSU banks. Nifty Media emerged as the strongest performer, rising 2.40 per cent, while Nifty Auto recorded an increase of 1.37 per cent.

The banking index closed marginally lower, with the Nifty Bank ending at 60,626.40, down 42.95 points or 0.07 per cent.

Market participants indicated immediate support near the 60,500 mark. They warned that the inability to sustain higher levels could trigger consolidation or limited profit booking.

In the currency market, the rupee appreciated by 0.23 per cent to finish at 90.52 against the US dollar.

Technical analysts identified near-term support for the Nifty in the 25,550–25,600 range, followed by a stronger base around 25,450–25,500.

Despite a 3.10 per cent decline in January, the Nifty 50 has gained 7.71 per cent over the past year.

The broader Nifty 500 remained flat during January but posted an annual rise of 6.94 per cent. Meanwhile, midcap and smallcap indices recorded monthly losses of around 3.53 per cent to 5.52 per cent.
