Indian equity markets recorded early gains on Wednesday, driven by continuous foreign inflows and robust earnings from domestic companies.
By 9:23 AM, the Sensex had climbed 122 points, or 0.14 per cent, to reach 84,396, and the Nifty advanced 50 points, or 0.19 per cent, to 25,985.
The broader market followed benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 rising 0.13 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 up 0.18 per cent.
All sectoral segments traded in positive territory, led by consumer durables, which gained 0.79 per cent, the auto sector up 0.63 per cent, and metals rising 0.41 per cent.
Analysts placed immediate support for the Nifty at the 25,700–25,800 range and set resistance near 26,000 points.
Optimism over the interim India–US trade framework and strong corporate earnings lifted investor sentiment, giving short-term support to equity markets.
As the Nifty approaches the 26,000-point psychological barrier, market participants are expected to remain cautious.
Markets across the Asia-Pacific region traded mostly higher, even as weak economic data and AI-related concerns affected US equities.
China’s Shanghai index rose 0.22 per cent, while the Shenzhen index slipped 0.07 per cent.
Japan’s Nikkei advanced 2.28 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng climbed 0.33 per cent, and South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.87 per cent. In contrast, US markets ended mostly lower, with the Nasdaq down 0.59 per cent, the S&P 500 falling 0.33 per cent, and the Dow Jones inching up 0.1 per cent.
On 10 February, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 69 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased Rs 1,174 crore in Indian markets.
Benchmark indices extended their three-day recovery, with auto, metals, consumer, and healthcare stocks driving gains.
Analysts said continued foreign inflows and healthy corporate earnings are likely to support Indian equity markets, although investors may remain careful as indices approach key resistance levels.
