Sensex Below 65,300, While Nifty Closes At 19,396

Sensex and Nifty ended nearly flat on Tuesday as investors booked profits on fears about possible rate hikes in the United States and persistent foreign investment outflows.

The BSE index advanced 3.94 points or 0.01 percent to close at 65,220.03. It rose 146.82 points or 0.22 percent throughout the day to 65,362.91.

The NSE Nifty rose 2.85 points or 0.01 percent to settle at 19,396.45.

ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro, Larsen & Toubro, Axis Bank, Tata Steel, Maruti, and Bharti Airtel were the top gainers on the Sensex.

Among the laggards were Jio Financial Services, Bajaj Finserv, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, and UltraTech Cement.

Jio Financial Services, Reliance Industries’ demerged financial services unit, debuted on the stock exchanges on Monday.

Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong all closed in the green in Asian markets.

The European markets were trading higher.

On Monday, the US market finished mostly in the green.

Brent crude fell 0.18 percent to $84.31 a barrel.

According to the exchange data, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold securities worth Rs 1,901.10 crore on Monday.

On Monday, the BSE benchmark rose 267.43 points or 0.41 percent to 65,216.09. The Nifty climbed 83.45 points or 0.43 percent to 19,393.60.
