Renewable Energy Sector To See 18.9% Job Growth In FY25: Report

The renewable energy sector will continue to create a large number of jobs despite a slight slowdown in hiring, according to a new TeamLease Services report.

Hiring in the sector is projected to grow at 18.9% in FY25, lower than 23.7% in FY24 but still much higher than 8.5% in FY23 and 10.4% in FY22.

The sector’s expansion is driven by India’s goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Key government policies, such as the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, National Green Hydrogen Mission, PM KUSUM, and the Solar PV Module PLI Scheme, have played a crucial role in workforce growth and skill development.

The report highlights the rising demand for technology-driven roles in solar, wind, and hybrid energy.

The industry increasingly adopts digital innovations to enhance efficiency.

Notably, demand for solar PV technicians, roofers, production operators, storage operators, and waste management specialists is on the rise. The sector also requires solar panel installers, energy auditors, and operational support professionals.

States like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, which lead in solar energy production, are at the forefront of employment generation.

These states attract both talent and investments in renewable energy projects.

The study reveals that 44.1% of contractual employees hold an ITI or diploma, followed by 28.9% graduates and 4.1% postgraduates.

The industry is youth-driven, with 54.8% of employees aged 26-35.

Additionally, 16% are between 35-40, while 18.2% are above 40.

Subburathinam P, COO of TeamLease Services, stated that high attrition and skill gaps remain challenges. He emphasized the need for vocational training, digital skill development, and retention strategies to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
