Pranav Adani Hails Praggnanandhaa After Second Victory Over Magnus Carlsen

Indian Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa R added another major achievement to his growing career by defeating World No 1 Magnus Carlsen for the second time during the Norway Chess 2026 tournament.

The 20-year-old secured the latest win while playing with the black pieces, having earlier overcome the Norwegian champion with white.

Pranav Adani, Director of Adani Enterprises Limited, commended Praggnanandhaa for delivering one of the most notable performances of the competition. He also praised the confidence the young grandmaster has shown against the world’s best players.

Norway Chess ranks among the most challenging tournaments in the sport and attracts many of the world’s top-ranked players.

By defeating Carlsen twice in classical games this year, Praggnanandhaa joined an elite list of players. Among Indians, only Viswanathan Anand has previously achieved the feat.

The latest victory further reinforces Praggnanandhaa’s emergence as one of the brightest talents in international chess. It also highlights India’s growing presence at the highest level of the game.

Praggnanandhaa receives support through the ‘Garv Hai’ programme run by Adani Sportsline.

The initiative helps promising Indian athletes through funding, advanced coaching opportunities, and exposure to international competition.

With two rounds remaining before the tournament concludes on 6 June, Praggnanandhaa holds third place with 12 points. He will take on reigning world champion Gukesh D in the next round before facing Vincent Keymer in the tournament finale as he bids to secure the Norway Chess title.
