PM Modi’s Vision Powers Up Uttar Pradesh: Adani To Build 1600 MW Plant In Mirzapur

Adani Power is transforming Mirzapur into a major power centre in Uttar Pradesh by approving and starting a 1600 MW thermal power plant in Dadri Khurd village.

The project, which recently received the green light from the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, represents a significant leap in the state’s energy infrastructure.

Affordable electricity for 25 years

Under a long-term Power Supply Agreement (PSA) signed with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), the state will receive 1500 MW of electricity from the plant for 25 years.

The agreed tariff is ₹5.383 per unit—substantially lower than prevailing market rates- offering the state a projected saving of ₹2,958 crore over the period.

Adani Power will develop the plant under the ‘Design-Build-Finance-Own-and-Operate’ (DBFOO) model.

It will install two generating units of 800 MW each, delivering a combined capacity of 1600 MW, with the majority supplied directly to the state grid.

Adani Power CEO SB Khyalya expressed pride over winning the competitive bid and emphasised the company’s commitment to meeting Uttar Pradesh’s growing power demands.

He stated, “Mirzapur will soon be recognised not only as a spiritual centre with Vindhyachal Dham, but also as a hub of energy and development.”

Economic & industrial impact

The plant will not only provide affordable and uninterrupted power but also drive industrial expansion in Mirzapur.

The plant will create thousands of jobs during both construction and operation, significantly boosting the region’s socio-economic growth.

Khyalya further noted that the plant would place Mirzapur firmly on India’s energy map.

“This project will not only enhance energy security for Uttar Pradesh but will also drive faster development in and around Mirzapur,” he added.

The Adani thermal power project is emblematic of the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government—to combine energy security, affordability, and regional development.

As the plant comes to life, it will brighten not only homes but also the economic prospects of the entire region.
