Indian stock markets began Wednesday’s session with strong gains, as benchmark indices moved higher on improving global cues linked to a possible easing of tensions between the United States and Iran.
Investor confidence strengthened after US President Donald Trump indicated that the conflict with Iran may be approaching a resolution, raising expectations of greater stability in international markets.
In early trade, the Nifty 50 advanced over 1.6 per cent to cross the 24,200 mark, while the BSE Sensex climbed around 1.7 per cent, gaining more than 1,300 points.
Market participants noted that key support for the Nifty is seen in the 23,900–24,000 range, with resistance expected around 24,250–24,300 levels.
Volatility eased sharply, with the India VIX dropping more than 15 per cent in early trading. The decline indicates that traders anticipate reduced uncertainty in the near term.
Broader markets showed stronger momentum compared to frontline indices, as mid-cap and small-cap stocks recorded gains of over 2 per cent each.
Among sectors, public sector banks and information technology shares led the rally, while pharmaceutical stocks lagged behind the broader market.
Oil prices also edged lower during Asian trading hours, further supporting sentiment. Brent crude futures saw a slight dip as concerns over supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz eased.
Analysts said a combination of cooling geopolitical risks, softer crude prices and lower volatility contributed to the rally in equities. They further advised investors to remain cautious and selective despite the positive trend, given lingering global uncertainties.
