Year Ender: India’s Unprecedented Milestones Across Technology, Defence, And Sustainability In 2024

The year 2024 marked a series of groundbreaking achievements for India. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India reached several “firsts”, showcasing its growing global influence. These milestones reflect the country’s progress in technology, defence, and sustainability.

Technological Innovation

National Creators Award (NCA): India launched the world’s first National Creators Award (NCA), honoring digital content creators for their significant contributions. Prime Minister Modi presented the award at Bharat Mandapam, emphasizing the government’s focus on technology and digital platforms.

UN Conference on Digital Infrastructure: In April, India hosted the United Nations’ First International Conference on Digital Public Infrastructure. The event highlighted India’s ‘Citizen Stack’ initiative, inspired by ‘India Stack’, focusing on harnessing technology for sustainable development.

X-Ray Polarimeter Satellite: ISRO successfully launched its first X-ray polarimeter satellite (XPoSat), marking India as the second country to have a dedicated observatory for studying black holes.

Defence And Space Advancements

Private Sector Aircraft Plant: India inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex in October, the first private-sector military aircraft plant. It will manufacture the C-295 aircraft, enhancing India’s self-reliance in defence.

Antariksha Abhyas Military Space Exercise: India conducted its first-ever military space exercise, ‘Antariksha Abhyas 2024’, strengthening its space-based operational capabilities.

Hypersonic Missile Test: In November, DRDO test-fired India’s first long-range hypersonic missile, capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads.

Infrastructure And Sustainability

Steel Slag Road Section: India inaugurated its first steel slag road section on NH-66, connecting Mumbai to Goa. This initiative reduces industrial waste and enhances road durability.

Electric Train in Jammu and Kashmir: Modi flagged off Jammu and Kashmir’s first electric train in February, boosting sustainable transportation and regional connectivity.

Floating Solar Plant: India Railways launched its first floating solar plant at Igatpuri Lake in Maharashtra, furthering India’s renewable energy goals.

Economic And Governance Milestones

First Snow Leopard Survey: India conducted its first-ever snow leopard survey, discovering 718 of these endangered big cats in the wild.

Electricity to Remote Villages: India provided electricity to two remote villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, and to Chhattisgarh’s Chhutwahi village, for the first time in 75 years.

Forex Reserves Surpass $700 Billion: India crossed a major economic milestone, with foreign exchange reserves surpassing $700 billion, placing it among the top global holders.

Digital Payment Milestone: In October, UPI processed 16.58 billion transactions, marking a historic achievement in India’s digital payment system.

Healthcare Breakthroughs

Indigenous Antibiotic Launch: India launched Nafithromycin, its first indigenous antibiotic for resistant infections. This development strengthens the country’s self-reliance in healthcare.
