India’s Soybean Meal Exports Hit 2.78 Lakh Tonnes In January

India’s soybean meal exports reached 2.78 lakh tonnes in January, marking the highest monthly shipment in the ongoing oil year (October-September).

Strong global demand, competitive pricing, and high-quality produce contributed to the surge, according to industry experts.

Exporters noted that the early months of the oil year typically see peak export volumes due to the availability of superior-quality produce at competitive rates.

DN Pathak, Executive Director of the Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) stated, “Soyabean meal export in Jan escalated to 2.78 lakh tonne. This surpasses the previous month marginally and remains highest thus far in this ongoing oil year.”

France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Kenya were the primary buyers of Indian soybean meal during the month.

According to SOPA data, France imported 54,520 tonnes, Germany 53,705 tonnes, the Netherlands 45,800 tonnes, and Kenya 10,430 tonnes.

Madhya Pradesh remains the country’s leading soybean-producing state.

Between October 2024 and January 2025, total soybean meal exports stood at 7.96 lakh tonnes, down from 9.34 lakh tonnes in the same period last year.

Despite the decline, the 2023-24 oil year saw a 24% rise in overall soybean meal exports, reaching 22.75 lakh tonnes.

To strengthen exports, SOPA has urged the government to provide farmers with high-yield soybean seed varieties at no cost to boost domestic production.
