India’s PC Market Grows For Seventh Straight Quarter; AI-Powered Laptops Surge 185%

India’s PC market continues its upward trend, recording growth for the seventh consecutive quarter.

According to research firm IDC, the country shipped 3.3 million desktops, laptops, and workstations in the first quarter of 2025—an 8.1% rise year-on-year.

The main driver behind this growth was laptops. Sales jumped 13.8% compared to the same period last year. While desktop sales dipped slightly, AI-powered laptops saw an explosive 185% growth.

Though still a niche segment, their rising popularity signals strong interest in smarter machines.

Several factors contributed to this surge. Republic Day discounts and aggressive stock pushes by online retailers in March boosted sales.

Online purchases rose nearly 22% as more consumers opted for digital buying.

Corporate demand remained steady, especially for notebooks. However, desktop sales in the government sector slumped by over 27%, highlighting a slowdown in public procurement.

More users now prefer AI-powered laptops over traditional models, the report revealed. These devices offer better productivity and enhanced security, making them attractive to business users.

Among manufacturers, HP led the market with a 29.1% share. It remained strong in the business segment.

Lenovo followed with broad appeal, while Dell retained its commercial market position. Acer and Asus closely trailed the top three.

Experts believe AI laptops will shape future demand. As businesses seek smarter, more secure systems, this trend is set to grow.

If you’re eyeing a new laptop, you’re in good company. The Indian PC market is thriving, and the smarter the device, the higher the demand.
