India’s Mobile Phone Exports Set To Cross Rs 1.8 Lakh Crore In FY25

According to industry data released on Tuesday, India’s mobile phone exports are on track to surpass Rs 1.8 lakh crore in the current fiscal year (FY25), reflecting a nearly 40% growth compared to the previous year.

Between April and January, exports reached Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with January alone contributing over Rs 25,000 crore, as per figures from the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA).

Since the launch of the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme in FY21, mobile phone exports have surged by over 680%, establishing them as the leading driver of India’s electronics exports.

The United States continues to be a key market for Indian-made smartphones.

The PLI scheme has played a pivotal role in reshaping India’s electronics manufacturing sector.

Mobile phone production in the country has doubled, growing from Rs 2.2 lakh crore to Rs 4.22 lakh crore in recent years – a significant milestone for the industry.

Projections indicate that total production will touch Rs 5.1 lakh crore in FY25, reinforcing India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.

Industry Leaders Emphasize Competitiveness & Scale

Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA stated, “We have reached a substantial scale, driven by strong government support and our industry’s robust capability. Moving forward, we will focus on nurturing competitiveness, expanding scale, and strengthening our supply chain.”

The next phase will focus on deeper integration with the supply chain to increase domestic value addition, aligning with India’s broader goal of reaching $500 billion in electronics manufacturing and becoming the world’s leading smartphone exporter.

A collaborative effort between the government and industry has however driven this remarkable growth, consistently delivering globally competitive smartphones.

For the first time, smartphones will likely become India’s top export category, highlighting the transformation of the country’s manufacturing capabilities.

“We cannot afford to be complacent — our journey has only just begun. There are immense opportunities still to be harnessed, and with the rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape, our window of opportunity is short. We must take decisive steps forward,” Mohindroo further added.
