According to the most recent data given by the Ministry of Coal, India’s coal production increased by a strong 14.5% in June of this year to reach 84.63 million tonnes, up from 73.92 million tonnes in the same month the previous year.
In comparison to the same period previous year, when it was 57.96 million tonnes (MT), Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 63.10 million MT of coal, an increase of 8.87 percent. Furthermore, captive and other enterprises produced 16.03 MT of coal in June 2024, up 55.49% from the same month the previous year when it produced 10.31 MT.

India’s coal exports for June 2024 totaled 85.76 MT, a 10.15% increase over the same month the previous year. Last year it was 77.86 Million Tonnes. CIL dispatched 64.10 Million Tonnes coal in June 2024, an increase of 5.41 percent over the same month the previous year when it shipped 60.81 MT.
Furthermore, the provisional record for coal dispatch by captive/others in June was 16.26 MT, indicating a 43.84 percent increase from the previous year’s record of 11.30 MT.
Coal businesses’ holdings saw a sharp increase; as of June 30, they possessed 95.02 MT of coal, indicating an astounding 41.68 percent annual growth rate.
At the same time, Thermal Power Plants’ (TPP) coal stock had a significant rise, reaching 46.70 MT at a rate of 30.15 percent each year.
