Indian benchmark indices traded in positive territory on Thursday morning, supported by improving global sentiment linked to expectations of a possible diplomatic breakthrough between the United States and Iran.
The BSE Sensex advanced nearly 380 points during early trade to touch an intraday peak of 78,339.24, while the NSE Nifty gained over 90 points to trade around 24,423.
Investor sentiment improved after reports indicated that Iran was reviewing a peace proposal from the United States aimed at ending the recent conflict.
Reports suggested that Tehran would issue its response after completing an internal assessment.
US President Donald Trump also said he believed Iran was interested in reaching an agreement. His remarks further boosted confidence across global markets.
Despite the broader market rise, several heavyweight stocks remained under pressure. Shares of Tata Consumer, Power Grid, Hindustan Unilever, TCS, HDFC Bank, Titan, NTPC and Sun Pharma were among the major laggards on the Nifty index.
Sector-wise, realty, FMCG, consumer durables and private banking stocks witnessed selling pressure, with some indices slipping as much as 0.7 per cent. On the other hand, auto and metal stocks attracted buying interest and recorded gains of up to 0.78 per cent.
Market analysts said investors are continuing to monitor geopolitical developments in West Asia. They said the tensions have triggered fluctuations in crude oil prices in recent weeks.
According to experts, markets are currently reacting to alternating optimism and uncertainty surrounding the regional crisis.
Analysts also pointed to growing concerns over high valuations in artificial intelligence-linked stocks globally. They warned that excessive concentration in the AI segment could lead to a correction if investor enthusiasm weakens.
According to market observers, foreign portfolio investment flows into India may improve if valuations in AI-driven sectors cool down internationally. They further noted that companies reporting strong fourth-quarter earnings are being rewarded by investors, while disappointing results are leading to sharp stock-specific declines across market segments.
In the commodities market, Brent crude traded above $102 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude moved close to $96.5 per barrel.
Global cues also remained supportive. Major Asian indices, including the Nikkei, Hang Seng and KOSPI, traded higher during the session.
Wall Street had also ended the previous session on a strong note. Both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices recorded gains.
