India Accelerates Clean Mobility Drive At 6th International Energy Conference

India is moving steadily towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility, as discussed at the 6th International Energy Conference and Exhibition.

Experts from across the energy and automobile sectors highlighted advancements in alternative fuels, renewable energy, and policy support that aim to reduce dependence on crude oil and promote self-reliance.

Puneet Anand, Assistant Vice President and Group Head – Corporate Affairs and Social at Hyundai Motor India, stated that the automobile sector has been leading the adoption of emerging technologies.

He emphasised that the industry has already integrated CNG and electric vehicles, and is now pushing forward with flex-fuel and hydrogen-powered models.

“These developments will reduce crude oil imports, strengthen our economy, and harness local resources such as sugarcane and corn to power future-ready vehicles,” Anand explained.

He added that the conference session showcased global trends that are in sync with India’s ambitious goals for clean mobility.

Solutions for Heavy-Duty Transport

Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Triveni Engineering & Industries, focused on clean mobility options for freight and logistics.

He further pointed out that using liquefied natural gas (LNG) for trucks allows longer travel distances with fewer refuelling stops, presenting an efficient and eco-friendly solution for heavy-duty transport.

“LNG enables trucks to travel four times the distance without recharging, offering significant advantages to consumers and the environment alike,” he said.

Sawhney also underlined the growing importance of ethanol blending. He discussed the need to move beyond the current 20% blend (E20) and prepare the market for higher ethanol concentrations like E27 and even E100.

According to him, automobile manufacturers are ready for the shift and are awaiting implementation support.

Renewable Energy and Policy Frameworks

Neerav Nanavaty, CEO of BluPine Energy, said that renewable energy expansion is central to India’s long-term development goals. He noted that the conference reflected a holistic view of the energy ecosystem, covering power generation, transmission, and distribution.

He stressed the need for continued policy support, particularly in improving access to transmission networks and creating a stable regulatory framework.

“The goal is to build a resilient domestic manufacturing sector for the renewable energy value chain, enabling India to become fully self-reliant,” he said.

Meanwhile, India’s clean mobility roadmap is gaining momentum, driven by innovation in vehicle technologies, alternative fuels, and policy alignment.

With strong participation from industry leaders and support from the government, the transition towards sustainable, affordable, and independent mobility is well underway—paving the path for a carbon-neutral and energy-secure future.
