HDFC Bank Deputy MD Kaizad Bharucha To Step Down After Nearly 30 Years

HDFC Bank Deputy Managing Director Kaizad Bharucha has decided to step down after serving the lender since 1995.

Bharucha requested cessation of service with effect from December 31, marking the end of his long association with the bank.

The HDFC Bank board has accepted his request and will forward it to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for approval. The resignation will take effect as proposed, subject to the necessary regulatory clearance.

Bharucha has held a senior leadership position at one of India’s largest private-sector lenders. His departure marks a significant development in the bank’s leadership as it prepares for a change at the top.

Bharucha’s decision comes just days before Anup Bagchi takes charge as HDFC Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer on October 27.

Anup Bagchi, a veteran of the ICICI Group, is set to lead the lender as it navigates the next phase of its business and operations. His appointment marks an important transition for the bank’s senior management.

Reports indicated that Bharucha had been in the race for elevation to the MD and CEO position. The bank has not publicly confirmed any link between those reports and his decision to leave.

The board’s acceptance of Bharucha’s request is an important step in the process, but the bank must forward it to the RBI for regulatory approval. His proposed departure on December 31 will come after Bagchi assumes charge, creating a period of transition within the lender’s leadership.

The development comes as HDFC Bank prepares for a new leadership phase under Bagchi, following Bharucha’s nearly three-decade association with the institution.
