On Thursday, Google revealed the commencement of the second iteration of the Google News Initiative (GNI) Indian Languages Programme (ILP), aiming to bolster support for news publishers across India.
Following the success of its inaugural edition launched last year, which saw over 300 news publishers across nine Indian languages benefiting from the initiative, Google is now gearing up to expand its reach and enhance its offerings.
For this edition, Google has collaborated with its technology partner, Mediology, to deliver a revamped ILP experience, emphasizing next-generation tools tailored for newsrooms operating in Indic languages.
The ILP 2.0 will extend its support across nine languages, including English, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Marathi, thereby catering to a diverse linguistic landscape.
Diving deeper into its offerings, Google outlined a structured format for the ILP 2.0, comprising a series of scaled inspiration sessions coupled with virtual workshops, personalized 1:1 diagnosis and workshops, and dedicated implementation assistance.
The scaled inspiration series and virtual workshops will encompass eight sessions featuring guest speakers, real-world success stories, and specialized product-focused training, providing participants with invaluable insights and resources.
Furthermore, the 1:1 diagnosis and workshop component will offer personalized assessments and guidance to all selected news publishers, tailoring strategies to individual needs and challenges.
Lastly, the implementation phase will involve dedicated consultations and technical support tailored for a subset of news publishers, ensuring seamless integration and optimization of the tools and strategies discussed throughout the program.
Encouraging news publishers across India to seize the opportunity, Google has opened the application window from June 5 to June 16. They can leverage Google’s expertise and resources to enhance their digital presence and navigate the evolving media landscape effectively.
