Godrej Consumer Products To Invest In Tamil Nadu, Generate 400 Job Opportunities

Fast-moving consumer goods behemoth Godrej Consumer Products Ltd will be making an investment of Rs 515 crore in Tamil Nadu. The company has signed a memorandum of understanding with the state government to establish a manufacturing facility. This greenfield production unit will be situated in the Chengalpet district, neighbouring Tamil Nadu, and will focus on producing body care items. The unit is projected to employ around 400 individuals, with 50% representation from women, the LGBTQ community, and disabled individuals.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, expressed his enthusiasm about this development, highlighting the impact it would have on the state. The executive chairperson of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, Nisaba Godrej, was also commended for her dedication to diversity and sustainability.

The investment serves to solidify the company’s presence in the southern markets and meet the demand in neighbouring regions. This move aligns with GCPL’s long-term strategy of contributing to India’s growth and delivering affordable, high-quality, innovative products.

The new manufacturing plant, planned for Thiruporur in Chengalpet, aims to generate over 400 job opportunities and establish an inclusive, gender-balanced workforce. The facility’s focus on sustainable practices is reflected in its Indian Green Building Council and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification aspirations. Energy-efficient technologies, waste reduction strategies, and solar roof panels are among the sustainable features.

The plant is expected to enhance GCPL’s production capabilities, particularly for products like Cinthol soaps, Godrej Expert Rich Creme, shampoos, and Goodknight mosquito coils. Sudhir Sitapati, MD and CEO of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd emphasised the plant’s significance in expediting delivery times, optimising inventory management, and reducing costs.
