Alongside the criminal case, the court approved a separate settlement involving the Adanis and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The agreement requires the former to pay $18 million to the US government to resolve the civil securities fraud allegations.
The US Department of Justice had previously informed the federal court that investors did not suffer financial losses. The losses related to the securities linked to the case.
The department argued that the absence of such losses further weakened the government’s case. It said the circumstances supported its request to end the charges.
In its court filing, the department stated that investors had not lost any money on the securities involved. It further pointed out that two notes had already been repaid in full, while the remaining two had been paid up and showed no signs of an expected change.
The court’s latest decision marks a major development in the US legal proceedings involving Gautam Adani and his associates.
