Days after announcing the new CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk has turned his entire focus to Tesla. Now, the CEO of Tesla wants the hires for his company to be cleared by him. He communicated his decision via a memo to Tesla staff on Monday, as per the documents attained by The Information.
He stated that no new hires, including contractors, can be made unless they have his personal approval, Reportedly, Musk instructed executives to send him the list of job opening requests on a weekly basis. Simultaneously, he cautioned them to “think carefully” while doing so.
Musk said in an email on Monday, “No one can join Tesla, even as a contractor, until you receive my email approval.” The automaker did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment.
According to the publication, Musk has previously issued similar instructions, and staff members have noted that the practice has occasionally been compared to a hiring freeze.
Last week, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino, the former head of advertising for NBCUniversal, as the new CEO of Twitter. On Friday, he claimed that by hiring Yaccarino, he would have more time to manage Tesla. At the automaker’s annual meeting on Tuesday in Austin, Texas, the billionaire is anticipated to address Tesla shareholders.
The company missed market expectations last month and reported its lowest quarterly gross margin in two years as a result of aggressive price cuts made in countries like China and the US to boost demand and fend off escalating competition.
Meanwhile, a federal appeals court rejected the billionaire’s request to change or renegotiate a 2018 settlement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which required some of his tweets to receive prior approval from a Tesla lawyer. This decision was made on Monday.
Musk had filed an appeal to remove the requirement, claiming that it infringed on his First Amendment right to free speech by placing a “government-imposed muzzle” on his ability to tweet.
