Electronics Sector On Track For Global Dominance: MeitY Secretary

India’s electronics industry is set to become the world’s largest manufacturing sector, according to MeitY Secretary S Krishnan.

His remarks, made during the inauguration of Zetwerk Electronics’ new manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, underscore the region’s critical role in achieving this milestone.

Tamil Nadu As A Manufacturing Hub

Krishnan highlighted Tamil Nadu’s growing influence in the electronics sector, with Sriperumbudur and neighboring districts such as Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram on track to become the largest electronics manufacturing cluster in India.

He emphasized that the state’s skilled workforce, combined with the presence of global electronics manufacturers, positions Tamil Nadu as a prime location for industry growth.

The MeitY Secretary also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious target of reaching USD 500 billion in annual electronics manufacturing.

Krishnan stressed that Tamil Nadu would be pivotal in meeting this goal, with the region expected to contribute around 20-25% of the national target.

He commended the state’s talent pool, which continues to attract numerous electronics manufacturers eager to establish operations in Tamil Nadu, further driving the industry’s growth.

Electronics PLI Scheme & Industry Growth

Tamil Nadu is also home to the largest beneficiaries of the electronics Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, with seven out of the 27 companies located in the state.

This initiative, Krishnan noted, plays a key role in accelerating the sector’s growth and ensuring India remains competitive in the global electronics market.

The new Zetwerk Electronics facility, the company’s seventh in India, will significantly contribute to achieving the USD 500 billion target in electronics manufacturing.

This facility, along with others in the region, showcases India’s growing capacity to meet global demand and strengthens its position as a manufacturing powerhouse.

Krishnan’s remarks underline India’s rising prominence in the global electronics market.

With strategic initiatives like the PLI scheme, a skilled workforce, and a robust manufacturing base in Tamil Nadu, India is positioning itself to dominate the global electronics manufacturing landscape in the coming years.
