Central Railway To Add 90 New General Coaches, Boosting Capacity For 9,000 Passengers Daily

In a bid to enhance passenger services, Central Railway is set to add 90 new general second-class coaches to 42 trains, increasing daily capacity by 9,000 passengers. This move is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to introduce 1,000 new general second-class coaches by the end of the month, aiming to accommodate growing demand for affordable rail travel.

This latest addition follows the successful integration of nearly 600 new general category coaches over the past three months. Looking ahead, the Railway Board has plans to add over 10,000 non-AC coaches, including sleeper class coaches, to the fleet within the next two years. These new coaches will be designed using the modern Linked Hofmann Busch (LHB) model, which is known for its focus on safety and passenger comfort.

Railway officials emphasized that general-class passengers, who represent a significant portion of daily commuters, remain a top priority. By increasing the number of general coaches, this initiative aims to alleviate congestion on trains and improve the overall efficiency of rail travel, providing a smoother and more comfortable experience for millions of passengers.
