Apple Boosts iPhone Production In India To $22 Billion; Exports Surge Amid China Shift

Apple has raised its iPhone production in India to $22 billion in the fiscal year ending March 2025, marking a 60% increase from the previous year.

According to Bloomberg, the tech giant now makes one in five iPhones in India. This marks a significant shift from its traditional reliance on China.

India’s technology minister confirmed that $17.4 billion worth of iPhones were exported from India during this period.

The production rise follows COVID-related disruptions in China, which impacted Apple’s main plant there.

Foxconn’s factory in southern India now handles the majority of the work.

Tata Group has also emerged as a major supplier, operating facilities formerly run by Wistron and Pegatron.

Apple Expands Indian Manufacturing Footprint

Apple plans to manufacture more iPhones in India. Shipments of India-made iPhones to the US rose after President Donald Trump announced new reciprocal tariffs in February.

Although electronic goods, including smartphones, are currently exempt, a 20% duty on Chinese goods remains. This is expected to keep pushing Apple toward supply chain diversification.

Moving away from China entirely will be tough. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates it may take eight years to relocate just 10% of Apple’s production capacity from China.

India makes Full iPhone Range Including Pro Models

India now manufactures Apple’s entire iPhone lineup, including its premium titanium Pro models.

This growth is backed by government subsidies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push to make India a manufacturing hub.

Modi’s government is also boosting electronics components production through $2.7 billion in new incentives.

Apple currently holds about 8% of India’s smartphone market. Its sales reached nearly $8 billion in fiscal 2024.
