Air India Group and Adani Airports have announced plans to transfer selected flight operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).
Air India Express will commence four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December 2026.
The airline plans to introduce services to Kuwait and operate existing services to Oman from January 2027.
The Kuwait transition remains subject to the necessary approvals.
Air India Express will gradually shift services from Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to Navi Mumbai.
The airline group expects to complete the transition by the International Air Transport Association’s Northern Summer 2027 season.
The move forms part of a wider plan to facilitate the long-awaited redevelopment of Terminal 1 at CSMIA. It supports Mumbai’s development as a dual-airport system while allowing Air India Group to serve passengers efficiently and retain its existing operating slots at CSMIA.
Operating from both Mumbai airports will strengthen connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The arrangement will offer travellers greater choice and convenience while supporting the expansion of regional aviation infrastructure.
Adani Airport Holdings Limited welcomed the airline group’s plans.
NMIA features advanced technology, multimodal connectivity and scalable infrastructure designed to accommodate future aviation demand and deliver a seamless passenger experience.
The phased transition marks another step towards expanding Mumbai’s aviation capacity while enabling the redevelopment of existing airport facilities.
