Indian IT behemoth Wipro is making headlines again. This time, for mandating a new training session for freshers. The training session culminates with a test as well as the probability of elimination. These new hires have reportedly been waiting for their onboarding at the company for more than 15 months, according to media reports. Furthermore, these freshers joined the IT service firm for a lower package of 3.5 lakhs per annum instead of 6.5 lakhs per annum. To obtain a salary hike, they concluded their velocity training programme while there were waiting to get on board. However, it seems they’ll have to undergo training once again or put their job in jeopardy.
The Union, meanwhile, claimed that following the velocity programme, the employees were promised onboarding but no additional training. As reported by the Economic Times, the mail that the freshers were sent read, “Project Readiness Program (PRP) is a program offered by Talent Transformation to all campus and off-campus hires referred to as NGA’s (Next Gen Associates). The broad objective of PRP is to equip NGA with the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them to start working on customer projects.” It also read that the candidates that fail to attain less or equal to 60% after the final supplementary attempt will be separated by the company with immediate effect through HR.
According to Harpreet Singh Saluja, President of the IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), these developments taken by the IT giant are “unethical, unfair and unjust.”
Speaking of, Wipro isn’t the only company that has imposed a training session with a possibility of separation on fresher job claimants. A few weeks ago, similar training was introduced by LTI Mindtree, IT services company.
