Adani Power Earns NSE ESG Nod; Outpaces Energy Rivals

Adani Power Limited has secured a significant endorsement for its sustainability journey, with NSE Sustainability Ratings and Analytics Limited awarding the company a score of 65 and placing it in the ‘Aspiring’ category for ESG performance.

The assessment, conducted using publicly available data, positions Adani Power ahead of major peers across thermal, mixed-fuel, and integrated energy segments, reinforcing its claim as a frontrunner in responsible power generation.

The recognition comes from NSE Sustainability Ratings and Analytics, a subsidiary of NSE Indices Ltd, under the umbrella of the National Stock Exchange of India.

The appraisal reflects Adani Power’s structured and sustained focus on environmental responsibility, social impact, and governance discipline, areas that are rapidly becoming decisive benchmarks for corporate credibility in India’s energy sector.

On the environmental front, Adani Power has invested aggressively in emission-reduction technologies.

The company deploys advanced Ultra-Super Critical boiler systems across its plants, significantly improving efficiency and reducing carbon intensity.

Continuous emission monitoring systems operate in real time, enabling swift corrective action and tighter regulatory compliance. These measures underline a strategic shift toward cleaner thermal power operations rather than incremental adjustments.

Water stewardship has emerged as another cornerstone of the company’s ESG strategy.

Adani Power has implemented zero liquid discharge systems at its facilities, ensuring that operations place minimal stress on local water ecosystems. This approach addresses one of the most sensitive sustainability challenges facing thermal power producers in water-scarce regions.

The company has also scaled up its social development initiatives, extending its footprint beyond power generation.

Adani Power actively supports education, healthcare, and skill development in communities around its plants.

Scholarship programmes for underprivileged students, regular health camps, and livelihood enhancement projects reflect a clear push toward inclusive growth rather than symbolic outreach.

Workforce Welfare and Human Capital Development

Internally, workforce welfare remains a priority. The company continues to invest in safety training, employee well-being, and diversity and inclusion initiatives across sites, aligning operational performance with human capital development.

From a governance standpoint, Adani Power has surpassed statutory thresholds across key committees.

Independent director representation in the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Audit Committee, and Risk Management Committee exceeds regulatory minimums, strengthening oversight and transparency.

The company has also enforced strict ESG standards for suppliers and contractors, extending accountability across its value chain.

With an installed thermal capacity of 18,110 MW across 12 plants in multiple states and an additional 40 MW solar facility in Gujarat, Adani Power combines scale with sustainability ambition.

The NSE recognition signals that ESG performance is no longer peripheral but central to corporate valuation and public trust.

As India recalibrates its energy future, Adani Power’s ESG rating underscores a broader message: sustainability is fast becoming a competitive advantage, not a compliance burden.
