The largest airport operator in India is expanding internationally, and the Adani group intends to bid on the establishment of duty-free shops at the international airport in Macau. The conglomerate led by billionaire Gautam Adani, Adani Enterprises, said in a stock exchange filing that it had successfully incorporated MTRPL Macau Ltd. as a wholly-owned subsidiary on November 20 in Macau.
The subsidiary was established with the intention of entering the duty-free market. “MML is incorporated for the purpose of bidding for duty-free liquor and tobacco shops at Macau International Airport,” it read. An open tender was held in August by Macau International Airport (MFM) for a duty-free liquor and tobacco services sub-concession. As stated in the tender document, bids must be submitted by November 29.
