Adani Is To Place A Bid At The Macau Airport Duty-Free Stores

The largest airport operator in India is expanding internationally, and the Adani group intends to bid on the establishment of duty-free shops at the international airport in Macau. The conglomerate led by billionaire Gautam Adani, Adani Enterprises, said in a stock exchange filing that it had successfully incorporated MTRPL Macau Ltd. as a wholly-owned subsidiary on November 20 in Macau.

The subsidiary was established with the intention of entering the duty-free market. “MML is incorporated for the purpose of bidding for duty-free liquor and tobacco shops at Macau International Airport,” it read. An open tender was held in August by Macau International Airport (MFM) for a duty-free liquor and tobacco services sub-concession. As stated in the tender document, bids must be submitted by November 29.

It stated that MFM is seeking a “operator to operate duty-free liquor and tobacco services, optionally with or without general merchandise retail services (but no perfume and cosmetics), with the defined subconcession areas at Macau International Airport.” The Macau International Airport can accommodate up to 6 million people annually.

The Ports-to-Edible Oil company of Adani has recently branched out into more modern industries like media, data centers, cement, and telecom. After securing contracts for the operation and management of six airports—Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Jaipur, Guwahati, and Thiruvananthapuram—it entered the airport industry in 2019.

The nation’s oldest air maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) company, AirWorks, was recently bought by Adani Airport. Additionally, it is considering acquiring AI Engineering Services (AIESL), Air India’s MRO division.
