Adani Group Signs Agreement For 570 MW Green Hydro Plant In Bhutan

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, announced a significant agreement with Bhutan on Sunday, marking a pivotal step in the region’s sustainable energy and infrastructure development.

The Adani Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for the establishment of a 570 MW green hydroelectric plant in Chukha province.

During his visit to Thimphu, Adani met with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay to discuss the project and explore further collaborations.

Adani shared his enthusiasm on X, stating, “Absolutely fascinating meeting with Dasho Tshering Tobgay, Hon. Prime Minister of Bhutan. Signed an MoU with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for a 570 MW green hydro plant in Chukha province.”

Adani praised Bhutan’s leadership, noting, “Admirable to see @PMBhutan advancing the vision of His Majesty The King and pursuing broad ranging infrastructure initiatives across the kingdom.”

The collaboration underscores the Adani Group’s commitment to contributing to Bhutan’s green energy landscape and broader infrastructure goals.

Meanwhile, the Adani Group plans to work closely on various hydro and infrastructure projects in Bhutan.

Gautam Adani expressed his admiration for Bhutan’s ambitious eco-friendly masterplan, particularly the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, which includes large computing centres and data facilities.

“Excited to collaborate on these transformative initiatives, as also on green energy management for a carbon negative nation,” he remarked.

This recent agreement follows a meeting in November last year when Adani first met with the King of Bhutan.

At that time, he expressed his eagerness to explore opportunities for the Adani Group to support green infrastructure development in Bhutan, highlighting the warmth and happiness of the Bhutanese people.
