Adani Enterprises Limited Builds Major Stretch As PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates Ganga Expressway

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway. It is a major infrastructure project linking Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh with Prayagraj in the east.

Stretching 594 kilometres, the six-lane greenfield corridor, expandable to eight lanes, reached completion in under three and a half years.

A significant portion of the project, about 464 km, was developed by Adani Road Transport Limited, part of Adani Enterprises Limited, while the remaining stretch was handled by IRB Infrastructure.

The expressway will likely transform connectivity across 12 districts. These include Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.

Officials said it will cut travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from nearly 11 hours to about six hours.

A key feature of the project is the use of AI-based camera systems to enhance road safety and provide real-time alerts.

In addition, a 3.5-km stretch in Shahjahanpur serves as an Emergency Landing Facility for the Indian Air Force, allowing aircraft operations during emergencies.

The corridor will improve access to markets, healthcare and education. It will also strengthen links to major religious destinations such as Prayagraj and Varanasi.

During construction, more than 12,000 workers worked at peak activity. The project will likely generate annual logistics savings of Rs 25,000–30,000 crore. It is also to create nearly three lakh jobs over the next decade and contribute over Rs 1 lakh crore to the state’s economy.

Improved connectivity is likely to benefit farmers and small businesses by enabling faster transport of goods and better price realisation.

Officials estimate that more than eight crore people will gain from reduced travel times and enhanced access to services.

The Uttar Pradesh government is also planning industrial corridors along the route, which will likely create additional employment opportunities.

Better connectivity is to boost tourism, particularly to key religious sites such as Garhmukteshwar and Triveni Sangam. This will likely further support local economies.
