The Adani Ahmedabad Marathon has joined the World Athletics Global Calendar, marking a major milestone ahead of its 10th edition on November 29.
World Athletics, the global governing body for athletics, oversees the sport across 214 member federations and sets standards for international competitions. Its global calendar brings together recognised events worldwide for athletes, federations and the wider athletics community.
The inclusion makes performances at the Adani Ahmedabad Marathon eligible for consideration in the World Athletics Rankings and places Ahmedabad on the international road-racing circuit.
The recognition, however, reflects the event’s compliance with established standards covering course measurement and certification, race operations, medical preparedness, timing and results, elite athlete management, and applicable athletics and anti-doping regulations.
The milestone highlights the marathon’s growth over the past decade.
What began with a few thousand runners has evolved into a city-wide sporting event, with more than 24,000 participants taking part in the previous edition.
The marathon’s #Run4OurSoldiers initiative brings citizens and Armed Forces personnel together to honour India’s soldiers, giving the event a purpose beyond running.
The recognition comes as Ahmedabad prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, further strengthening its sporting profile.
Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer, Adani Sportsline, called the recognition a proud moment for runners, volunteers and Armed Forces personnel. He further said the listing validated the standards built around course certification, runner safety, timing systems and elite athlete management.
Adesara added that the marathon has become a festival for Ahmedabad, with people from across the city coming onto the streets together.
As the event enters its 10th edition, he said the organisers remain committed to delivering a race worthy of its international recognition.
