India’s Aadhaar authentication and e-KYC transactions continue to rise, with February marking a notable 14% year-on-year growth. The government reported on Friday that at least 225 crore Aadhaar authentication transactions and 43 crore e-KYC transactions were carried out during the month, highlighting the increasing reliance on digital identity systems.
The e-KYC service has become a cornerstone in providing seamless and secure experiences for customers, particularly in banking and non-banking financial services.
By simplifying identity verification, e-KYC has played a crucial role in improving the ease of doing business across multiple industries. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) emphasized that the service is fostering greater efficiency and convenience in India’s digital ecosystem.
By the end of February 2025, total Aadhaar authentication transactions surpassed a remarkable 14,555 crore, while e-KYC transactions exceeded 2,311 crore. This impressive figure reflects the growing adoption of Aadhaar-based services across various sectors.

Aadhaar’s face authentication technology is also gaining traction. February alone saw 12.54 crore face authentication transactions, setting an all-time monthly record since the feature’s introduction in October 2021.
The growing popularity of this technology underscores its effectiveness in offering secure and reliable digital verification.
A total of 97 entities have now adopted Aadhaar’s face authentication technology, including new additions like Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited, PhonePe, Karur Vysya Bank, and J&K Bank. The use of this AI/ML-based solution has expanded significantly across finance, insurance, fintech, health, and telecommunications sectors.
Since the launch of face authentication, transactions have exceeded 115 crore, with nearly 87 crore occurring in the current financial year alone, as reported by MeitY.
Various central and state government departments are also leveraging Aadhaar’s face authentication technology to ensure that benefits are efficiently delivered to targeted beneficiaries. This growing use across different sectors demonstrates Aadhaar’s critical role in India’s ongoing digital transformation.
In January, Aadhaar authentication transactions hit a record high of 284 crore, marking a 32% increase from the 214.8 crore transactions recorded in the same month last year. This surge further highlights the expanding role of digital identity verification in the daily lives of Indians.
As India continues its digital journey, Aadhaar remains a pivotal tool in streamlining services and ensuring secure access to a range of government and private sector offerings.
