Chaitra Navratri indicates the beginning of the Hindu New Year . Goddess Durga and her nine incarnations, Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmcharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandmata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri, are worshipped during the festival. Moreover, Ram Navami, which commemorates the birth of Lord Ram, is observed on the final day of Chaitra Navratri.
Maa Bramhacharini is the goddess who is worshipped on the second day of Chaitra Navratri. Maa Bramhacharini’s depiction shows her walking on bare feet, carrying a japamala in her right hand and a kamandal in the left one.
Goddess Bramhacharini is one of the unmarried forms of Maa Durga. She is dressed in a white saree, Maa is believed to have appeared in this avatar to perform intense penance( Tapasya) to please Lord Shiva, win his attention, and marry him.
This incarnation of bramhacharini governs Mangal (Mars), the planet that represents good fortunes. Therefore, devotees worship her to negate the ill effects of Mangal from their lives.
Pray to Lord Ganesha (Vighnaharta) and seek his blessings for a hurdle-free Navratri vrat. Light a lamp (with ghee or mustard or sesame oil) and place it on the altar near the Goddess’ idol/image. Maa Bramhacharini’s idol must be dipped in honey and milk. A teeka must be applied to its forehead. Flowers, sandalwood, curd, milk, and rice must be offered to the Goddess during puja. Hibiscus and white lotus can be used on this day.
Then, invoke Maa Bramhacharini by chanting the following Mantras
Jay Ambe Brahmacharini Mata,(जय अम्बे ब्रह्मचारिणी माता,)
