Imran Khan Finally Granted Jail Meeting Amid Mounting PTI Protests

Adiala Jail authorities on Tuesday allowed former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khanum, to meet him after weeks of repeated refusals.

The meeting broke a prolonged deadlock in which Khan’s family members and senior PTI leaders had consistently been denied visitation rights, prompting frustration within the party and its supporters.

Uzma Khanum entered the prison premises while a large number of PTI workers gathered outside Adiala Jail to express solidarity with their detained leader.

Jail officials decided on the same day PTI called for simultaneous protests outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail.

The party accused authorities of deliberately restricting Imran Khan’s access to his family, colleagues, and legal representatives.

According to PTI leaders, Khan had been cut off from all visitors for several weeks.

Access Battle Intensifies

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi stated that since October 27, no one had been permitted to meet Imran Khan or his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Authorities enforced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the protests.

The move restricted public gatherings and increased police presence around sensitive locations.

With PTI leaders unable to directly communicate with their party founder inside the prison, concerns have intensified over the party’s internal coordination.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) issued a statement expressing serious concern about reported restrictive detention conditions. It also raised alarm over limitations placed on Imran Khan’s family access.

The rights body stressed that officials must immediately clarify why Imran Khan has been unable to meet close relatives, political associates, or legal counsel.

It emphasised that such access is essential to prevent isolation and the potential misuse of detention powers.

HRCP urged the government and provincial authorities to ensure compliance with constitutional protections and established standards for humane treatment.

Adiala Jail authorities have repeatedly denied rumours about Imran Khan’s transfer or deteriorating health in recent days.

They state that he remains in prison, is fully healthy, and is receiving necessary medical attention.

Officials described circulating claims about his health as baseless.

Authorities have kept Imran Khan incarcerated since August 2023 as he faces multiple legal cases, including corruption and terrorism charges. These cases stem from his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in 2022.
