On January 26, 2024, the former chief minister of Bihar will receive the Bharat Ratna. The news was released before to his birthday, which falls on January 24, 2024.
In the Nani community, he was born to Gokul Thakur and Ramdulari Devi.
When he served as Bihar's chief minister in the 1970s, it was revolutionary.
He was close to Jayaprakash Lohia and was influenced by Ram Manohar Lohia.
He was detained in 1942 for his involvement in the quit India movement.
Thakur went on to serve as Bihar's chief minister twice.
He instituted a 26 percent reservation for Bihar's backward classes in November 1978.
During his tenure as Education Minister, Thakur eliminated English as a mandatory subject at the elementary school level.
In addition, he started significant land reforms that resulted in the Zamindars' land being redistributed.
