The Mystery Begins

On August 18, 1945, Bose was said to be aboard a Japanese military plane that crashed near Taihoku.Witnesses claimed he suffered severe burns and died soon after.

Alleged Plane Crash

No official record or body was ever recovered. This fueled doubts among followers, who refused to believe the leader of Azad Hind Fauj was dead.

The Missing Body

Bose’s supposed ashes were kept at Renkoji Temple in Tokyo. India has never officially verified if those remains truly belong to Netaji.

In the 1960s, rumours spread that “Gumnami Baba”, a hermit in Uttar Pradesh, was actually Bose living incognito. No concrete proof ever confirmed it.
