Symptoms of new COVID variant JN. 1: Is it life threatening?

Two years post the emergence of the Omicron variant of covid-19, the virus has resurfaced in India

Kerala reported its first case in a 78-year-old woman, marking the country's initial encounter with this variant.

The patient reported mild symptoms and has now recovered from the infection.

JN.1 is believed to be more adept at evading immunity its emergence coincides with winter, when respiratory ailments rise

Initial symptoms include fever, runny nose, sore throat, headache, and, in certain cases, moderate gastrointestinal problems .

Symptoms:

 Symptoms usually improve in 4-5 days time. Breathing problems may also be experienced by certain patients.

Currently, there is no evidence that this is more severe than any other variant,

It doesn't appear to have higher fatality rates or greater severity of sickness, so there is no need to panic.

The characteristics of the variation, including its transmissibility and effect on immunity, are still being monitored by India and the international community
