Israel-Hamas war: Hezbollah chief breaks silence

According to Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah, Hamas was the driving force behind the October 7 attack, and the decision was made entirely in secret by Palestinians.

"The magnificent success of the October 7 operation was made possible by absolute secrecy and the element of surprise.

Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was fully Palestinian planned and executed, and its organisers kept it a secret from the public.

As thousands gathered in a square in the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital, Beirut was rocked by joyous gunfire in anticipation of Nasrallah's televised speech.

The address was given the day following the biggest flare-up in border hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

During his long speech, Nasrallah praised the onslaught four weeks ago by Hamas, which targeted military outposts and rural areas in southern Israel.

"Palestinian planning and implementation was solely responsible for this magnificent, expansive operation," Nasrallah declared.

The region has been waiting anxiously for Nasrallah's speech to see if the Israel-Hamas dispute would turn into a regional war.

Hezbollah, an ally of Hamas, has taken deliberate measures to keep Israel's troops occupied along its border with Lebanon since the start of the conflict.
