INSAT-3DS Mission: GSLV F14 is Called 'Naughty Boy'

On February 17, 2024, from the Sriharikota launch site, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) plans to launch its meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS aboard spacecraft GSLV F14.

The satellite seeks to provide more precise and instructive weather predictions and alerts for natural disasters.

Known as the "naughty boy" of India's space agency, the satellite carrier GSLV F14 has a history of malfunctions.

The mission's goal, as stated by the ISRO, is to maintain services for the currently in operation INSAT-3D (launched in 2013) and INSAT-3DR (September 2016) for improved meteorological observations.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), the National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, and the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services are among the departments that will benefit from this weather monitoring satellite.

Satellite-assisted search and rescue transponders, data relay transponders, imager payloads, and sounder payloads will all be carried by the 51.7-meter-tall rocket.
