As the world's largest democracy waits with bated breath to vote in the upcoming general elections, here are some of the rights that are granted and safeguarded by the Constitution that every Indian voter should Know about:
Every Voter has the right to know about the candidates contesting the elections. This means that voters can seek information about the candidate's financial records, election manifestos, and criminal records, if any.
Right to Know
None of the Above (NOTA) or the Right Not to vote is where a voter participates in the election but deems that none of the contesting candidates are worthy of their vote.
NOTA (Right Not to Vote)
In case a voter finds out that somebody has cast a vote on his/her behalf, mistakenly or fraudulently, one can provide a valid proof of identify and get a new ballot paper. The person's vote will be recorded on a separate ballot which allows those affected to vote while also maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
Tendered Vote
Voters who are differently abled or illiterate and unable to cast their ballot at the polling station or thorugh postal ballot, they can do so with the assistance of an electoral officer, who will record their vote.
